COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDEES


The  Coalition announces that the following ten people have been named the 2006 Community Service Award Recipients:    


* Tulika Mandal, Administrator, Halsted Manor, Harvey, Illinois; a sheltered care home, and long-time counselor to troubled families; Past General Secretary, Bangladeshi Association of Greater Chicagoland (B.A.G.C.); Bangladeshi American Community Awardee;  

 


 

 

* Chuimei Ho, Ph.D., Adjunct Curator (Archaeology and Ethnology); Lead Curator of the ‘Splendors of the Forbidden City’ Exhibition, The Field Museum; Co-Founder and President, Chinatown Museum Foundation, Chinese American Community Awardee;  

 



 

 

*  The Hon. Jerry B. Clarito, Commissioner, Skokie Park District; Systems and Finance Supervisor, Lutheran General Children’s Day Care; Long-time Community Volunteer Advocating Benefits for Filipino American Veterans of World War II; Filipino American Community Awardee,

   


 

 

* Shree Gurusamy, Social Worker, Xilin Asian Community Center, Naperville; Legislation Chairperson and Diversity Chairperson; former Secretary, Owen Elementary School PTA, Naperville; Community volunteer for various cultural programs; Indian American Community Awardee;

 


 

 

* Martino Tangkar, Engineer Planner, Parsons Corporation, Chicago; Assistant Chairman/Treasurer, Asian American Festival   2005; community leader and committee volunteer for numerous Indonesian groups for multi-faceted activities such as elections, charitable events, cultural performances, festivals, student activities and educational seminars; Indonesian American Community Awardee;

 



 

* Ronald Yoshino, Retired Director, Locomotive Design & Systems Integration, Electro-Motive Division, General Motors Corporation; Past President, Treasurer and Committee Chairman, Japanese American Citizens League; Japanese American Community Awardee;

   


 

* James S. Kong, President, Meemun Enterprises Inc.; President, Korean-American Society of Chicago; Member, Board of Directors, Global Korean Network Foundation; Korean American Community Awardee;

   


 

 

* Younus M. Suleman, Suburban Area Director, Office of U.S. Congressman Bobby L. Rush (1st District, Illinois); responsible for community and grassroots outreach throughout the 1st District; Pakistani American Community Awardee;

   



 

* Sumrerng (‘Sam’) Piticavong, Businessman/Owner, Bangkok Grocery, Chicago; Co-Founder, Thai Buddhist Center of the Midwest (n/k/a Wat Dhammaram, The Thai Buddhist Temple of Chicago); Thai American Community Awardee; and

   



 

* Kelly Dathao Ly, Accounting Technician, City of Chicago Department of Revenue; Volunteer, Nghia Sinh International, Inc.; Vietnamese American Community Awardee.
